Dhakeshwari Mondir

The Dhakeshwari Mondir is the national temple in Bangladesh, the temple of Dhakeshwari Goddess. It was established in 12th century by Ballal Sen, a king of  Sena density. To day the capital city of Dhaka is named after Dhakeshwari Goddess. The original 800 years old statue was damaged severely during liberatin war in 1971 bu Pakistani Army. Then the templw was further damaged during the riots of 1989/1990. So frequent repairs and renovations were taken place on the temple. As a result there is no similarity  between current style of the architecture of the temple and its original architecture . Many researches say that the temple is one of the Shakti Peethas, where the crown of the Goddess has fallen. The temple is a cultural heritage of Dhaka city as well as the Bangladesh. There are four identical structures devoted to Lord Shiva inside the temple. Every year large celebration of Durga Puja is held here with daily prayer. Concerts and charity drives are also regular activity of the temple. It is also a famous tourist spot in Bangladesh.
