Mahastan Gar

Bogra is an ancient enriched city of Bangladesh. This district has different tourist attraction. Mahasthangarh is one of them which is the earliest archaeological site so far discovered in Bangladesh. It contains the remaining sign of  an ancient kingdom formally known as 'Pundrovardhana' (the kingdom of Pundras). 'Pundrovardhana' is one of the kingdoms of Eastern India and its ancient capital was Mahasthangarh.  The word Pundrovardhana has been frequently used in different ancient treatise such as 'Mahavarata', 'Puran', ''Ramayana. 
Mahasthan means a place that has holiness and Garh means fort. Now a days  Mahasthangarh  has become a Shib popular tourist spot. This is situated 11 km north of Bogra in Shibganj Upazilla on Bogra-Rangpur highway. Mahasthangarh stands on red soil. It is believed that the location for the city was decided because it is one of the highest area in Bangladesh, approximately 36 m above sea level. This citadel is rectangular in plan and the river Karatoya flows on the east of the citadel. Now inside the fortification there are several mounds and structural vestiges. These are Parasuramer Basgriha( Palace of king Parasuram), Jiat kinda (way for the purification of life), Mankalir Dhap, Munir Ghon, Bairagir Bhita (palace of a female anchorite), Khodar Pathor Bhita, Tamra Dawaza, Burir Fatak etc. Again outside of the fortification there are also a number of mounds. Gobhindo Bhita which is a temple, Khulnar Dhap (temple). Mangalkot (temple), Totaram Panditer Dhap  (a monastery), Noropotir Dhao, Gokul Medh which is also called the (Behular basor gharh) are the excavated mounds outside the citadel. And Kaibilki Dhap, Balai Dhap, Prochir Dhibi, Juraintala, Siladevir ghat etc are unexcavated mounds. A visit to Mahasthangharh will see the tourists a wide variety of antiquities of gold, terracotta etc of  ancient periods which also a great way to know the ancient history.
